Tocantins Public holidays
1 January – Installation day of Tocantins State in 1989 and its capital Palmas in 1990 .
18 March – Autonomy day. On this date in 1809, to captaincy of Goiás was divided into two counties (regions): the South County and North County – a fact which is considered the first step in the movement for emancipation of Tocantins.
8 September – Day of Nossa Senhora da Natividade, state patron.
5 October – Creation of the State of Tocantins. Enactment of the Federal Constitution in 1988, establishing the state.

Palmas Public holidays
20 May – Aniversary of Palmas. The day that construction of the city started in 1989.
19 March – Day of São José, patron of Palmas.
