Sugarcane area harvested in Tocantins rises 914% in 2010

The first survey of the 2010/2011 crop of sugarcane, conducted by Conab, showed an increase of 914.29% in the area targeted for sugarcane production in the state of Tocantins. With three centers of production – Arrais, Gurupi and Pedro Afonso – the expansion is estimated at 14.4 thousand hectares.

One of the main indices of increase was registered in the municipality of Pedro Afonso, with an expected milling of 1.4 million tons this year. The region is home to the unit of Bunge Açúcar e Álcool.

Governor Carlos Henrique Gaguim announced on Tuesday 15, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the implementation of the first project of REDD – Reducing Emissions by Avoiding Deforestation and Cerrado Degradation. New Hampshire and Tocantins, Brazil, Sign “Sister States” Partnership

Stating “we need to learn from each other,” New Hampshire Governor John Lynch welcomed Governor Carlos Henrique Gaguim, his counterpart from Tocantins, Brazil, for the signing of a “Sister States” agreement at the State House last Wednesday.
