Initially it was inhabited by Augusto Pereira and called Centro do Augusto; in
district status, it was called Augustinópolis and, when it became a city, retained that name.
The religious festival is celebrated in the city in June, in honor of Santa Rita de Cássia, patroness of
Parish.
